About coronavirus COVID- 19

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV)A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.  

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.  Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.

Timeline of preventive measures and actions taken at MENA College of Management (MCM)

  • March 5, 2020: MCM implements a directive from the Ministry of Education (MoE) to suspend face-to-face classes. MCM moves Spring Break period to begin March 8.
  • March 15: First Spring Semester 2019-2020 online classes, using the Microsoft Teams video conferencing platform while maintaining the courses’ regular timings.
  • Mid-March: MCM initiates temperature checks and sign-in requirements for all campus visitors.
  • March 24: MCM campus receives a thorough deep cleaning and disinfection from an external service provider.
  • March 25: MCM receives MoE decree 229/20 mandating that online delivery of classes extend until the end of the academic year 2019-2020.
  • Late March: MCM receives and implements instructions from Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) that employees should work from home.
  • May–June: Work-from-home restrictions are relaxed. Summer I online classes commence (May 17). Additional precautions (e.g., floor stickers to maintain social distancing) are implemented at MCM campus.
  • July 12: Summer II online classes commence.
  • August 16: MCM participates in virtual conference organized by MoE, in which the Minister indicates an expectation that classes without an absolute requirement for a face-to-face presence be taught remotely. MCM communicates to students that Fall Semester 2020-2021 courses will be delivered remotely.
  • September 1: MCM is visited by a representative of Dubai Municipality.
  • September 6: Fall Semester 2020-2021 online classes commence.
  • September 8-9: MCM is visited by a Readiness Inspection Team from the MoE.
  • October 8: MCM receives report of the Readiness Inspection Team. More than 90% of items on the Team’s checklist for Covid-19 readiness have been met satisfactorily.
  • October 10: MCM’s isolation room is inspected by a representative of Dubai Municipality.
As further developments occur, MCM will follow any guidance received from government health or education authorities. In this time of crisis, the safety of our students and employees is our paramount concern.

Ways to prevent the Coronavirus disease

  1. Avoid animals (alive or dead), animal markets, and products that come from animals (such as uncooked meat).
  2. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness.
  3. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. 
  4. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. 
  5. Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues. 
  6. Do not travel if you develop any illness symptoms.
